The cinegetic traditions of the Romanian people and the care for the cinegetic fauna made possible the preservation of a diversified and extremely valuable cinegetic fund. Romania is the home of the greatest European population of big carnivores (Bears - more than 4700, Wolves - more than 2500, Lynxes - more than 1800).
The populations of Chamois, Roe Deer, Red Deer and Wild Boar are also notable and, what is more important, all these populations are living in the wild, without any stimulation (hormonal or by nutrition) of trophies' quality.
The exceptional value of the trophies acquired in Romania is acknowledged by the nearly 2,500 gold medals granted during the international exhibitions and this taking not into consideration those who deserve the gold medal but were not presented and the several tens of thousands of silver and bronze medals. It is important to mention that Romania acquired the world records for chamois, bear and wolf trophies.
Red Deer (Cervus Elaphus)
The largest herbivorous species living under natural conditions in Romania. Red deer's areal stretches along the Carpathian arch, but it may be met also in the hilly and plain woodland. In the mountains, stag lives up to altitudes of about 1800 meters.
The Carpathian stag population consists of about 35.000 specimens. Romania holds 269 gold medals, and the national record is of 261,25 CIC points. Trophies of 8 - 10 kg are frequent in Romania. The weight of a sturdy adult male often exceeds 230 - 250 kg.
The practiced variants of hunting are: hunt by tracking and stalking. The hunt by tracking is practiced with success during the time of reproduction, in observation places, in the areas where the animal gather together during the "call of stags" mating season. The traditional rutting places are the open forest areas, which could be grassland, young brush planted after deforestation etc. The best time for a still hunt is September 20 to 30.
Hunt by stalking is done near the places known as being frequently visited by the male stags, and in the plain areas by getting nearby on horse-driven carts, running on the roads inside the forest. For the stalking hunt the best time: 15 September - 30 November. Recommended rifle for stag hunting: minimum 7 mm, up to high calibers of 9 and over 9 mm.
Fallow Deer (Dama Dama)
Romania holds a substantial population of fallow deer, especially in western and southern regions of the country. The fallow-deer's arreal starts with the plain zones climbing up to the hilly areas towards 500 m altitude. The highest trophy in fallow deer in Romania is of 204,06 CIC points. The average trophy in fallow deer in Romania is of about 2.75 kg, and the male average weight is of 100 - 120 kg.
Hunting is practiced as still-hunt during breeding period, or by stalking from the cart (waggon). For the still hunt during the breeding period, the best time is late October and early November. The best stalking hunt is getting nearby on a waggon, which is similar to the stag hunting in the plain areas. Recommended caliber is minimum 6,5 mm. Higher calibers can also be used, up to 9 mm.
Roe Deer (Capreolus Capreolus)
The areal of the most representative herbivorous in Romania starts from the Danube meadows and reaches the mountain woodland. The peak trophy in roe deer in Romania is of 211,67 CIC points. Romania holds 461 gold medals. Average roe deer trophies in Romania is of about 400 g. Roe deer weight is an average 30 - 35 kg.
Hunting is practiced as still hunt and stalking hunt. Optimum hunting period is from May 15 to September 15. Still hunt is practiced early in the morning, at the feeding places, as well as in the evening. The stalking hunting is carried out from the waggons, where the ground allows it, or in the hilly and mountains areas by walking closer to such places. Recommended caliber for the roe deer is 6,5 mm - 7 mm.
Bear (Ursus Arctos)
Romania has the largest bear population in Europe. Romania's bear population exceeds 4,500 animals. It is the largest carnivorous in the Carpathians, known on good reason as the "King of the Carpathian woodland". The bear areal stretches along the Carpathian arch, in hilly and mountain areas, but it can be found at altitudes starting with 500 - 600 meters up to 1200 meters.
Romania holds the world record for that species both for fur and the skull, with registered 687,79 CIC points for skin and 69,47 CIC points for the skull. Romania also holds the next 10 trophies in the world for skin, with a total 362 gold medals. Most frequent trophies in Romania are those of 350 - 400 CIC points.
The weight of an adult, sturdy bear exceeds often 300 - 350 kg. It may also reach 450 kg.
Hunting is practiced as: drive hunt, beat hunt and stalking. Beat hunt is organized in the autumn, when the animals gather around the abundant feeding places; beaters and dogs are used. To enhance hunting chances, we recommend groups of 3 up to 8 persons. 2 to 4 drives may be organized daily depending on the degree of ground accessibility and on participants' physical condition.
For those who may like it, a joint bear hunt may be organized, that is by adding a wild bear hunt. The bate and stalking hunts are especially organized in the spring season, but also in the autumn, as it is a special hunting aiming at collecting valuable trophies. The hunt is practiced in feeding places, specially arranged, from observation posts near such places. The optimum hunting period is: in the autumn: October 01 - November 15, and for the spring season from March 15 to May 15, depending on the weather conditions. Recommended caliber is of minimum 7 mm, up to high calibers of 9 and over 9 mm.
Wild Boar (Sus Scrofa)
Extremely stout and sturdy game, with its areal from the Danube Delta to the alpine zone, reaching altitudes of up to 1800 m in the summer. Romania holds 593 gold medals. The national record: 144 CIC points. The most usual weight of an adult animal in Romania is of about 150 kg. There are also animals of over 300 kg (in the Danube Delta).
Practiced hunting are the beat (drive hunting) and by tracking. The drive hunting is organized in the plain regions, in the Danube meadows, as well as in the hilly and mountainous zones. 3 - 5 beat hunting parties may be organized in one day in the plain regions. This type of hunting requires a very good physical conditions, on flat land.
In the mountains zones, this hunting may be associated with the bear or wolf hunt. 2 - 3 drives may be organized daily depending on the ground difficulty. The hunt requires a good physical conditions. The hunt requires use of beaters and dogs. The still hunt succeeds in places used by wild boar to come to their feeding or passing places. Recommended gun: of minimum 7 mm up to higher calibers, of 9 mm.
Fishing
For the fishermen keen on fresh water, the Danube River and the Danube Delta offer exceptional conditions for knocking down all personal records. Only in these places in any moment, you can find a "monster" very interested in your bait, a "monster" ready to put to a hard test your fishing skill in memorable drills.
The European Cat-Fish, the Carp, the Pike-Perch, the Pike, these are the most representative species for sports fishing in the Danube Delta, any fisherman being given the chance to get the bag-catch of his life. The fishing expeditions with optimal results are during 7 full days of fishing. The delicious traditional fish, crawfish and shell courses will not be absent from the menu. The period for fishing expeditions is between 15th June and 15th November.
Our company organises expeditions for 3 to 8 fishermen, offering more variants for the expedition type. Accommodation on sleeping-hulk and short travels to the fishing places. Meals are served on the hulks. Travelling by motorboat at disposal and organising a tents camp. The short travels to the fishing places will be done by motorboats or by rowing boat. Meals will be served on the motorboat.
